Hope for the treatment of retinitis pigmentosa
The Jules-Gonin Ophthalmic Hospital, ophthalmology department of the Faculty of Biology and Medicine at the University of Lausanne (UNIL), in collaboration with the team of Paul Guichard and Virginie Hamel from the Department of Molecular and Cellular Biology, has succeeded in improving the vision of mice affected by this genetic disease by combining two forms of a healthy gene.
The article on this research, published on March 19, 2024 in the journal EMBO Molecular Medicine, represents almost 10 years of effort to develop a new gene therapy vector for retinitis pigmentosa 28.
